GEOWULF
THE CHILD
NETTWERK MUSIC GROUP
Australia’s Geowulf is an intriguing dream pop project driven by the songwriting and singing of one Star Kendrick with the help of her longtime friend and collaborator, Toma Banjanin. With a series of already accomplished albums, Kendrick pushes things even further in the direction of very sophisticated pop on Geowulf’s latest effort The Child.
That direction may lie in the fact that Kendrick considers this album her most personal lyrically. “I’ve written a lot about heartbreak and relationships in the past, and I think on this album I finally found the space where I could tell more personal stories,” she explains.
That personal element is also quite reflected in the way Kendrick constructed the songs on the album musically, bringing in elements that at the same time seem both familiar and out of their usual place they have in ‘regular’ pop formulas.
With such a concept and presentation, Geowulf has achieved that goal rarely achieved by artists – to create pop that doesn’t stick to the usual.
