SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: GEMZ – SEE THE FUTURE

GEMZ

GEMZ
SEE THE FUTURE
INDEPENDENT

As a relatively new setup, California duo GEMZ, comprised of singer songwriter Jen Wood and electronic musician and producer Ted Chen, have only three singles and See The Future, this EP under their belts.

Yet, starting out on Wood’s single song idea, the singles, and particularly this EP, shows that this just might be an excellent match.

Both Wood and Chen seem to have brought to this project the best sides of the genres they come from originally: Wood a singer songwriter sensibility and a knack for a good melody, and Chen the capability to present those in an electronic music, or electro-pop setting, to be precise, without the electronics being overbearing.

For some, this might be something that is considered too poppish, but it is excellent pop and that is the thing that should really matter here.
