DARKER LIGHTER – “HANGING ON”
MISHI RECORDS/THE ORCHARD/SONY MUSIC
Salar Rajabnik is an independent artist based in Los Angeles releasing music under the creative moniker Darker Lighter. “Hanging On” is the first of 4 singles releasing before their debut self-titled album on Mishi Records via The Orchard/Sony Music Friday, March 28, 2025. The song was released on September 20th to endorsements and praise by Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear of Foo Fighters, Pete Yorn (whose live band Rajabnik is a member of), and Kim Gordon. The next single to be released is titled “Nothing’s Ever Gonna Be The Same Again” and it releases Friday, October 25, 2024.
The accompanying video for “Hanging On”, shot by renowned music & editorial photographer Joey Martinez (Rick Rubin, Neil Young, Gary Clark Jr, Queens Of The Stone Age, Willie Nelson), highlights Rajabnik playing every instrument on the song in the studio, with 2x Grammy nominated producer/engineer/mixer Robert Adam Stevenson (Paul McCartney, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Kills, Jeff Beck) at the helm.
“Hanging On” combines electronic and acoustic drums, paying tribute to punk-funk icon Prince; while blending warm synths and jangly guitar layers, the track also echoes the sounds of The Pretenders, Television, and The Cars, offering a nostalgic yet modern listening experience. Lyrically, the song delves deep into themes of identity forfeiture, the pain of losing loved ones, and the relentless fight to retain a sense of self.
