We are thrilled to unveil the video premiere of “Universal Universe,” the latest mesmerising single from Heiko Maile and Julian Demarre released Friday 13th September by bureau b.
Taken from their newly released album Neostalgia, which debuted a few days ago and is already featured on NPR’s “New Music Friday,” this track showcases the duo’s innovative blend of electronic and ambient sounds with a nod to 1970s and 1980s electronic music from Europe.
“Universal Universe” is a captivating retro-futuristic track that delves into expansive cosmic realms, blending electronic beats and textures Γ la Conrad Schnitzler with thought-provoking themes. Its visually stunning video is directed by Daniel Lwowski (GrΓΆnemeyer, Anne Clark, Tomcraft, Moguai).
The single marks the latest glimpse into Neostalgia, described as “cosmic, spacey and occasionally ambient but mostly melodic,” and showcases the duo’s unique ability to merge the familiar with the unexpected, nostalgia with contemporary sounds, contrasting textures and inventive melodies, while quoting various electronic styles, including retrowave, ambient, and . . . Krautrock.
As pioneers in the electronic music scene, Camofauge’s Heiko Maile and composer Julian Demarre are renowned for their innovative approach to electronic music. Fans of artists like Tycho, Bonobo, and ODESZA will find themselves drawn to the lush, textured sound that defines “Universal, Universe” and “Neostalgia”.
The track explores the universe’s vast complexities, inspired by Stephen Hawking’s observations on existence, eternal life, the laws of physics, and our fate in this infinite, seemingly ever-expanding cosmos.
For the video, Lwowski had to create an entire universe, quite literally: full of cosmic details, it captures the vastness of the universe around us, where we’re all part of a gigantic outdoor experiment. The question remains: who is doing the experimenting?
