After a 13-year hiatus, the Queens of heavy metal, Kittie, have released their long awaited seventh album, Fire.
The opening track, “Fire”, starts with a whisper and goes right into vocalist Morgan Lander’s powerful throaty screaming. Even though Ivy Vujic’s bass guitar steals the spotlight in this title track, the ladies all blend together making this an excellent opening track.
Lander highlights her ability to go seamlessly between deep and throaty to clean vocals in “I Still Wear This Crown”.
“Wound” is the shortest song on the album, less than three mins long, but manages to include a bad ass guitar solo by Tara McLeod, which isn’t typical for Kittie.
“One Foot In The Grave” has a simultaneous mix of throaty screaming with clean vocals, and Landers pounding the drums while Vujic and McLeod come together blending them all into one in this powerful track.
“Entertained” is also a shorter track. Slowing things down just slightly, it still packs a punch and again has a smooth transition from clean vocals to Lander’s guttural sound.
“Eyes Wide Open”, the first single from the album, is the album closer and once again McLeod steps to the front to deliver a bone-crushing solo.
The album is a perfect comeback for the Canadian metal queens, packing a powerful punch that proves that they are still the top all-female metal band.
