According to Double Wish, the Orange County duo of Adam Sabolick and Philippe Andre, create music that falls under the category of ‘dark sunshine pop’.

Ok, so it is a nice ide to create a category of your own to fit your music, but does the term stand up to the creative idea, based on the duo’s latest EP Universe Sometimes?

Well, based on the four detailed and textured tracks here, it is quite close. The duo takes its musical cues from quite a few sources, combining electronic leads by a guitar sound, you could say making a connection between dream pop of Cocteau Twins and thinking man’s electronics of Underworld. So, sunshine tones with dark undertones.

Same could be said about the duo’s lyrics. Lyrics are even more detailed and a bit darker too, making quite an interesting counterpoint with the music itself. It is the sort of music the duo has been creating since 2022, with yet a full-fledged album to come, so it is quite interesting to see and hear where this EP will take them further on.
