MOVEMENT MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024 @ HART PLAZA, DETROIT
TEKNONO: YES, YES
SUNDAY MAY 26, 2024
Since 2006, Detroitβs Movement Festival has become an annual pilgrimage for all things techno and house. Although sometimes lost in the shuffle, at its heart it is (should be) a Detroit party and the local acts are a highlight of this festival.
Detroit Techno artist TekNoNo, known for his electrifying beats and innovative soundscapes, began his journey in the late 2000s, quickly making a name for himself in the local scene. His initial foray into production and DJing saw him blending classic Detroit techno influences with a modern twist, earning acclaim from both peers and fans. TekNoNo’s discography includes several acclaimed EPs and a full-length album that showcase his distinctive style. He also is one of Kevin Saundersonβs managers at KMS records.
Movement is a marathon, but it looks like everyone is running a 100-yard dash. Festival goers and artists alike are still scraping the sleep out their eyes at 2pm, but here we go.
TekNoNo steps onto the stage, immediately putting the small but enthusiastic crowd at ease. An unlit blunt in his mouth, he signals a gentle awakening to pull yesterdayβs minds into today. He wafts through a house-inflected set, grooving himself and acknowledging the audience by playing seamlessly integrated tracks such as βItβs A House Dayβ by Ivan Masa & Super Flu, βOdara (Club Mix)β by Daniel Rateuke and the gem βFreakyβ by Panos Pissitelis & Junior Mi.
The crowd, as with the rain clouds, begin to roll in, as his set continues. TekNoNo set portends levity and life and the clouds, well they impend a future unknown.
