SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: PETER GABRIEL – i/o

Peter Gabriel

PETER GABRIEL
i/o
REAL WORLD RECORDS

Peter Gabriel is widely regarded as one of the most innovative musicians in the world. After a 21-year hiatus, he has made a remarkable and highly anticipated comeback with his groundbreaking album, i/o, which was released on December 1, 2023. In just a week, the LP skyrocketed to the number-one spot in the UK and is steadily climbing the charts in other regions.

Gabriel released a new song on every full moon for a year and captured them all in this new vinyl record. i/o consists of 12 captivating tracks that take listeners on a journey through two distinct realms, each with its own unique blend of sounds.

Prepare to be enchanted by the “Bright-Side Mix,” a euphoric fusion of uplifting melodies and flowing beats. This blend radiates an infectious energy that immerses you in a world of positivity and optimism.

However, be forewarned, for within the depths of i/o lies the “Dark-Side Mix.” Here, Gabriel delves into the shadows, crafting a haunting symphony that explores the depths of human emotions.

The closing track, titled “Live and Let Live,” was the last song to be composed. Gabriel’s intention behind this piece was to convey messages of forgiveness, tolerance, and optimism. It serves as a jubilant and uplifting conclusion to this soundtrack.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that even at 73 years old, Gabriel’s vocal prowess remains as impressive as it was during his “Sledgehammer” days, assuring us that he is fully prepared to rock the stage. He has the kind of voice you can listen to repeatedly and not get tired of.

I believe i/o has something for everyone, making it a valuable addition to any music collection. Additionally, the album cover itself serves as a captivating work of art.
