SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: DAEMON GREY – DAEMONIC

Daemon Grey

DAEMON GREY
DAEMONIC
OUT OF LINE MUSIC

Canadian metal artist Daemon Grey, aka the King of Sin, has released his second album Daemonic, a dark and provocative tale of sex, power, and demons.

“Beyond Good And Evil” is a great intro to the album and sets the tone with the haunting guitars and the growling voices. “Impermanence” starts out with vinyl scratchy sound effects, and moves into a short, dark, haunting track. The lyrics repeat and there’s not much to it. It’s not moving, it’s not powerful, it’s just there. The title track “Daemonic” begins with the line “as above so below/or so the story goes” and continues with great guitars, pounding drums, and harsh, growling vocals that would absolutely initiate a mosh pit when performed live. “Baby Be My Slave” is Daemon channeling his inner Nine Inch Nails & Marilyn Manson. It has some erotic lyrics and a thumping beat to it giving it some sexy peep show vibes.

Instead of going out with a bang, he ends with “Trouble”. Not keeping with the feel of the rest of the album, this song feels out of place. It’s a “Bad To The Bone” feeling song full of a mix of blues, screaming but has some pretty good guitar riffs and loaded with “I’m a bad boy” lyrics in its whole two minutes and 37 seconds.

Metal listeners will definitely get what they came for when they listen to this enjoyable mixture of 90s and industrial metal.

About the Author
Melinda Welsh
Melinda is a music enthusiast from the US who grew up on vinyl in the 70s and 80s. She's a lover of all genres, but rock/metal runs through her veins. Music is always in the background and in her head. Unfortunately, she has to have a "regular 8-5" job since "Professional Concert Go-er" doesn't pay the bills. Her bliss would be to follow more musicians and bands than "People she may know" on social media. Her ultimate long term goal is to be the old lady just enjoying the show down in front at the barricades at live shows. Her favorite quote is "Where words fail, music speaks".
