FROG
GROG
INDEPENDENT
To many ardent indie rock followers, Frog, consisting of brothers Danny and Steve Bateman, is hanging in the memory somewhere as one of those cult artists that has done something that earned them status.
The reason why the band’s name was not fresh in our memories might be the fact that, as the duo’s songwriter Dan notes, is because it took the duo at least three years to record and release their latest effort Grog.
Yet, for all those who didn’t forget the Batemans and their Frog project, as well as for those that are yet to encounter their music, Frog seems to have gathered a new sense of inventiveness and energy, coming up with that not easily definable sound between everything that was and is cool about New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records and left-field Americana, picking up pieces from everywhere and arranging them in a manner that suited Bateman brothers’ fancy.
And it seems that this apparently haphazard approach is working wonders for Frog, who make a giant leap with Grog.
