SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: DAVID HOLMES – BLIND ON A GALLOPING HORSE

David Holmes

DAVID HOLMES
BLIND ON A GALLOPING HORSE
HEAVENLY RECORDINGS

David Holmes is a name that often lingers in the minds of listeners, either as a DJ or as a member of Unloved, but even more so as the man behind quite a number of modern film soundtracks. At the moment, the number of those runs around the 30-mark.

On his latest solo album, Blind On A Galloping Horse, the man from Belfast, Northern Ireland shows why he is a hot property when it comes to film soundtracks, as he is able to combine all his musical skills here by creating this modern wide screen sound by updating the early ‘60s girl group sound, particularly Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound and bringing it up to these times, particularly exemplified on “Emotion,” and ‘Stop Apologizing,” two duets with Raven Violet.

This might not be a film soundtrack at the moment but could certainly serve as an inspiration for a movie at some point soon.
