London-based slide guitar sound innovator Geiger von Müller releases “Cosmic Cruiser,” the new video/single off his Slide Sonatas II. album. A moody, melodic instrumental hit, embedded in the Alt-Americana-Western-Ghost tradition. That tradition is piloted into the now, nay, the future, thanks to von Müller adding his spoonful of experimental seasoning to the good old bottleneck blues sound. This comes in the form of weird harmonics, tapping on the axe body and various unique little tricks with the guitar slide – yet keeping a healthy balance in favor of melody, not to be overshadowed by such sonic trickery.
The visuals come from acclaimed avant-garde filmmaker Boldizsar CR, also of London. A near-claustrophobic, intimate setting where a symbolic, magical atmosphere blurs boundaries of childhood play and musician’s creativity. Talking of piloting into the future, be prepared for an abundance of spaceships hovering about in this mesmerizing video.
