Strawberry Runners is one Emi Night (they/them) whose musical project has been running for some ten years now. After a series of quite noticed releases and a move to Philadelphia, some tragic events ensued in their life, including a period of homelessness. All that turned into the songs that comprise this self-titled release.

And what a set of songs this is! Behind some brilliant, gentle melodies and a bedroom pop setup with gentle electronic embellishments, there is another complex layer of Night’s lyrics covering a range of subjects from complex entanglement of love, power, and control within relationships, to the lasting effects of trauma.

Such a combination of sweet melodies and often dark words can spell a disaster for artists, but Night manages to strike an almost perfect balance between them here, making Breakup 2 one of the bigger surprises so far this year.
