Are there any new developments in synth-pop music? Well, it depends how you look at it, some might say that the genre is in a perpetuating mode, artist recycling older ideas, others might say that recycling the right ideas and rearranging them in a new way is a good development in itself.

Going on with the latter concept in mind, we come to Brooklyn via Atlanta wife/husband duo that goes under the name of Certain Times and their latest album Desire.

Yes, Certain Times recall all the good ideas LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk and all the modern intelligent synth-poppers picked up from the originators, such as Yellow Magic Orchestra and New Order, dissected them and then rearranged them in an order they found to their liking.

And yes, throughout the album’s 10 tracks, those rearrangements work in full with the duo adding touches that hark back to the best moments of 50s and 60s pop, just like adding some additional spice to the mix. And, again, yes, that is certainly a development in synth-pop.
