The latest album by Canadian rockers The Dirty Nil,  Free Rein To Passions,  is a rock record that instantly reminds you of the late 90s and early 2000s when rock dominated the charts. It is not nearly as good or groundbreaking as the majority of the songs or bands that were at the top of the charts at the time, but it still is a decent album.

Free Rein To Passions is a record that needs to be blasted. The drums are wild, the vocals are passionate and ‘in your face,’ and the guitars are nasty. “Nicer Guy” and “Blowing Up Things In The Woods” have a very energetic and fun attitude reminiscent of bands like Sum 41 and Blink-182, though they lack the catchiness those bands possessed.

The guitar riffs are gritty, explosive, and aggressive, often combining the styles of grunge and thrash metal. From the hard-rocking opening track “Celebration” to the 2000s punk-inspired “Stupid Jobs”, the album never lets up and gets angrier and louder. “Free Rein To Passions” has the coolest-sounding riff from the record. It is chaotic, lively, and erratic.

Overall, Free Rein To Passions is a worthwhile album, especially if you are looking for something that you want to play as loud as possible.
