Sister Ray is Edmonton’s Ella Coyes (they/them), whose melodic touch, lyrics, and vocals simply stand out on their latest EP Teeth.
It is no wonder that here they are supported by ginla, the Brooklyn based duo behind early Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief) and Lorely Rodriguez (Empress Of), since there is a definite similarity in the musical approach between Sister Ray and the other above-mentioned artists.
Still, even with just these four tracks here (and their previous album Communion), Coyes show their own personality and individual approach to songwriting and presentation that makes their music quite enticing.
With this EP, Sister Ray simply raises the expectations and presents themselves as another unique artist discerning listeners should pay our attention to.
