CROCODILES – “UPSIDE DOWN IN HEAVEN”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Crocodiles’ (Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell) brand new LP, Upside Down In Heaven (via Lolipop Records) will be released on April 28.
As described by Russell Cash: “After a prolonged hiatus, Crocodiles finally reconvened at Quiksilver Studios in St. Jean de Luz, France in the fall of 2021 to get their new album Upside Down In Heaven down on tape. Maxime Smadja (Rixe, Boss) was entrusted with production duties and brought his signature greasy sheen to the proceedings. Joining the party were Atef Aouadhi and Diego Dal Bon on bass and drums. In typical Crocodilian fashion, the album zig-zags cohesively from one style to the next. There are straight-up punk-pop anthems (Love Beyond The Grave), mutant garage-rock (Surfing With Death), infectious fuzz-pop (Forever Walk Alone), dance-floor ready bangers (Deadbeat) and even hardcore death-rock (Rock & Roll Graveyard). The songs are direct, cut to the chase and leave listeners thirsting for more.”
Following previous singles “Degeneration” and “Love Beyond The Grave,” today, the band also places emphasis on the record’s title track and final single, “Upside Down In Heaven.”
On the single, Charles Rowell wrote:
“Maybe I was chasing that elusive Stiff records sound or simply trying something that would make Westerberg smile. Either way itβs pure pop for heads who appreciate lyrics and melody. Itβs a little sad but triumphant and true. If youβve ever felt like youβre a little too far from home, like youβve chased the dream until itβs turned into a nightmare, then hereβs another song burning with regret and wasted wisdom.”
Continuing on the track’s accompanying video, Brandon Welchez wrote:
“We were very excited to get the opportunity to work with our old friend, the very talented Sam Macon, on this new video. He directed two of our videos in the past but more than a decade had passed since we collaborated. I had a loose idea of what I wanted. The challenge was that Iβm in LA and Charlie is in Paris, so we needed to figure out a clever idea we could shoot without being in the same place. Sam helped us polish the idea and directed me in person in LA and Charlie over zoom. With some green screens and clever editing we got what we needed!”
