SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: JASON COLLETT – HEAD FULL OF WONDER

Jason Collett

Jason Collett
Head Full Of Wonder
Arts & Crafts

Whether it was his work with Broken Social Scene or solo, Jason Collett was never an artist who stood still. He always left his fans wondering what he’s going to do next. So, not to leave them wondering too much or too long, he now comes up with Head Full of Wonder, his latest effort.

And yes, he again leaves them wondering – and not only because of the album title. Collett decided to make a contrast between the languid, cooled-down vibe of the music with stark lyrics of songs like “Dark Days”, “Hot Mess”, or elsewhere on the album. It is like Collett on the (and with the) Bahamas pondering the current state of things. He not only remains unscathed in this endeavour, but also lands with a set of songs to cherish.

“In absorbing the tumult of the times, there’s a lot of shit to write through, (that Bruce Cockburn line comes to mind, “you’ve got to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight”) and the challenge is to get to the other side with something positive to contribute,” he says. “I let go of some swagger and embraced intimacy and joy and wonder. I hear this in the record and it makes me very happy to have made it.”

by Tucker Judkins on September 25, 2026
JULIA JACKLIN THE GEM 4AD Julia Jacklin is back with The Gem — her fourth studio release and first in four years. The Gem can safely be called a breakup record, and it shines with its sharp articulation of the grayer areas of breaking up. [...]
