Margate is one of those English seaside towns that really comes alive when the summer season is on with musicians confined to themselves most of the time and being able to either work as covers bands or really contemplate and come up with some interesting, individual sounds. Add situations like the recent height(s) of the pandemic, and you really have to make up your mind which path you are going to take.

Dan Lyons And The Tenants have definitively taken the latter route, more productive, interesting, but at the same time quite a bit harder.

Shuttered Dreams, their latest album, is full of Lyons’ musical mixture of all more recent (and not so recent) indie sounds from the British Isles that at the same time make you listen and think from Jarvis Cocker and Luke Haines, to John Howard, the re-emerging names from the 70s.

Lyons obviously took his time to think out and carefully craft his lyrics and music, and the result is an album that sounds both so familiar and so innovative at the same time.
