Electronic music these days has been used and abused. Unfortunately, more the latter than the former. That is why good exceptions shine through like some sort of musical jewels. This is particularly true if the accent is on the melody and some intricate elements that make such music stand out. It seems that a number of bands like Grandaddy, or French exponents like Phoenix or Tahiti80 are becoming rare species.

It is no accident that you can connect Australian/Danish duo Palace Winter (Carl Coleman, Caspar Hesselager) and …Keep Dreaming Buddy, their latest release with the above-mentioned names. Not in the sense that Palace Winter are copycats in any shape or form, but to the fact that they try to keep a good melody alive in electronic music and by introducing elements that seemingly should not be there in the first place. No wonder they have attracted the attention of Jason Lytle, Grandaddy’s main man, who actually appears here in “The Deeper End”.

Actually, Coleman wants us in this particular track to “think Kraftwerk playing a classic country song.” And, in essence, that describes the whole tone and feel of this album – elements that on paper you wouldn’t even place close to each other, but actually work as a unified (electronic) whole. Oh, and you will really enjoy it.
