Heavy and moody basslines, bouncing synthesizers, and an abundance of shoegaze vibes are the moving parts for the band Bizou. Live performances with Bizou are a treat. The bursts of on-stage energy Prietto brings to an audience, always gets the crowd up and dancing.
The four musketeers are a talented group indeed, with a mixture of individuals from widely acclaimed bands to name a few: Smashing Pumpkins’ ex-guitarist Fiorentino, Light FM’s Mazzaschi and Nevlin, and Tennis System’s drummer Tidwell.
“Crashing Sky”, and “Burn Your Name” stand out the most in comparison to the rest of the EP, by having synths ticking like a clock, sharp guitars that are played in a ska style, dreamy beats, and accompanying dry and driving basslines.
The lyrics in “Kiss the Stars” paint a complete picture of love and loss through a mix of dance elements and confessing love lyrics. It brings to mind a crossover to other bands with similar song dynamics including Chromatics, and Alvvays.
Take a step back into the shoegaze realm with the final track “Trapdoor”. The instrumental arrangements driven by shimmering guitars, and a toned-down gentle powerhouse on vocals bring the EP to a magical close.
With Bizou curating 2 solid EPs, it is a band to keep an eye on. Reminiscent of The Cure, JAMC, New Order, and Slowdive, fans are always in for a treat with Bizou’s future creations.
