Since the release of Streethawk: Seduction in 2001, Dan Bejar has been coming up with one great album after another. Destroyer’s Rubies from 2006 Poison Season from 2015 can certainly end up on many, ‘best of ever’ lists. Mine for sure.

How does Have We Met fare in comparison? The answer is close, quite close. With Bejar and Destroyer albums it has always been a complete music and lyrics package where it often takes a bit of time for all the nuances to sink in. Still, the key with Destroyer has always been the fact that Bejar was and still is able to combine all his influences, and turn them into something completely his own and very personal. But it is the kind of personal that the listeners, and particularly fans, can relate to and in turn, make it their own.

In essence, no flaws and quite a few high points here, the opener “Crimson Tide” one of them. Bejar has certainly reached a level below which he doesn’t seem to drop a single note or a lyric line, and who knows, after a few more listens Have We Met might acquire that ‘among the best’ status.
