SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: KASSOGTHA – THE CALL

Kassogtha

Kassogtha
The Call
Independent

Switzerland is not known globally for Death Metal but there have been some influential bands for sure, we are looking at you Celtic Frost and Coroner.  Kassogtha’s new EP The Call is the new wave that will make you stand up and respect Geneva Switzerland by way of sheer heaviness.

Lead vocalist Stephany founded her first band at 15 and has not looked back since. Her voice is a movement unto itself carving a path for female Death Metal singers. She puts weaker would-be growling men to shame on title track “The Call”. It is not just the vocals but the whole Black Metal build up, the stomp groove, the dueling leads, bass breakdown, and evil solos. There is a confidence in the song that kicks off the rest to come. The next track, “The Greatest Fall”, starts blindingly fast and then transformers to a more comfortable Melodic Death Metal feel that is a fantastic listen. Stephany’s clean vocals come out to play on this track and are powerful and in no way making the song any less heavy.

The production on this record is top notch. One can hear every double bass hit, all the way to every finger tap. It is almost calculated. The end of the EP comes too fast but it delivers just as hard as the beginning. “Pale Horizon” has a nice At the Gates feel to it with the exception that there is a breakdown in the middle that is fantastic.  In summary, this is a great EP from a great Swiss band worth multiple listens.
