SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE BEACHES – THE PROFESSIONAL

The Beaches

The Beaches
The Professional
Universal Music

Toronto-based alternative rock outfit The Beaches have returned with the release of an EP titled The Professional. It’s the first bit of new music the Juno award-winning band—comprised of Jordan Miller (lead vocals, bass), Kylie Miller (guitar), Leandra Earl (guitar, keyboards), and Eliza McDaniel (drums)—has released since its debut studio album Late Show came out in 2017. Reuniting with Producer Jacknife Lee, the glam rockers crank up the volume and waste no notes on their latest musical endeavour.

“Desdemona,” “Want What You Got,” and “Lame” are all a battering ram of top-notch, upbeat and stylish tunes with witty, sing-along lyrics. Unwanted and unsolicited male attention gets tackled on “Snake Tongue,” which showcases a gang vocal of the ladies declaring, “Stop sending me all your dick pics they are boring me to pieces.” While the glam rock track “Fascination” bottles up energy like fine champagne and then pops the cork to unleash a stream of sparkling mania that’ll make you want to get up and dance.

Over the course of its five tracks and 16 minutes, The Professional gives listeners a taste of tight, glamorous rock ‘n’ roll that ends all too soon and leaves ‘em wanting more. But hey, you can always hit the ‘play on repeat’ button and let the music flow over and over again.
