SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MEEK MILL – CHAMPIONSHIPS

Meek Mill

Meek Mill
Championships
Atlantic Records

Meek Mill’s fourth studio album, Championships, is one the best albums of 2018. With 19 tracks and features ranging from Drake, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Jay-Z, PNB Rock, Jermih, Future, Roddy Ricch, and Kodak Black, Meek Mill has made a triumphant return to hip-hop.

Championships is a story about all the hardships and struggles he has faced within recent years. He is able to give his perspective having come from poverty, a single parent household, and involvement on the streets. Although this is not new for a Meek Mill album, it feels more passionate compared to his previous mixtapes and albums. On “Championships” and “What’s Free”, he discusses the consequences of being entangled within the prison system at a young age and calls for change for fair treatment among those who are in the same position as he is in. From these songs it shows how Meek Mill has matured over the years and how he is becoming a huge voice in hip-hop.

No song on the album makes one feel like this is an album that was thrown together at the last minute. Everything from the beat selection to the features were very good. Meek delivers a good mix of club songs, as well as intimate and personal ones.Overall, Meek Mill’s Championships is a great album.
