I’m super pissed, I should have heard of The Persian Leaps years ago. It’s okay though, because they have cleverly released EP’s every year since 2012 and have compiled the best of the best into this brilliant 18-song compilation. Pop That Goes Crunch doesn’t feel like a compilation at all, just a well-crafted album that should be heard by all Guided by Voices and Smith fans immediately.

The Persian Leaps need to be played at your next ‘80s themed party and would you please invite me? It’s obvious that the production of each song was well thought out and that Neil Weir (Producer) brought justice to the talented songwriting of Drew Forsberg and crew. I always appreciate a catchy melody, and it’s rare to find an album where every song is as good as the last one. I’m not even going to try and say my favorites, you just have to listen to the whole thing front to back, several times.

Songs like “Silent Treatment” are energetic and make me want to dance with my cat and sing along. The new addition of “Time Slips” feels like a really good day, in fact, nearly every song captures a euphoric gooey feeling. I will surely be listening to this album on repeat this fall and let the nostalgic guitars take over my life. The entire team of The Persian Leaps should be proud of this collection of work.
