SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ECKHARDT AND THE HOUSE – WHY DON’T YOU DANCE

Eckhardt And The House

Eckhardt And The House
Why Don’t You Dance
This Could Be Your Music Label

Why don’t you kids dance?

It’s a question begging for an answer.

Maybe it’s because we’ve been pushed too far into our screens, more concerned with creating the impression of living a hip and happy life than we are with actually living a life.  Or perhaps it is because these modern times of ours are too big, too confusing, too close to destruction – that moving our bodies to the beat of a song is no longer amusing.

Eckhardt And The House’s debut album Why Don’t You Dance starkly contrasts this notion. Distilled to its core, Why Don’t You Dance feels optimistic. An album made up of catchy tunes that pull you in, put a bop in your step, and a whistle between your lips. The vocals are delivered as an almost intimate whisper. Your skin tingles as you’re reminded of every time you fell in or out of love.

It’s a rare feat, what with ever-shortening attention spans, but Why Don’t You Dance is an album you listen to front to back. I mean truly listen. Stop everything else that you are doing and just absorb the songs. The music carries you away from the chaos of the world, if only temporarily, into sonic bliss. Simple songs, masterfully crafted, covering the whole range of the human condition. Eckhardt And The House creates music that is unpretentious and unapologetically catchy, serving as a reminder that the simplest answer is usually right, and that music doesn’t have to be a ten course meal to be decadent.
