LYDIA PERSAUD – ‘LOW LIGHT’
A Spill Exclusive Album Premiere
Track-By-Track For Low Light
1. Turning In
“Turning In” outlines the struggle within a relationship leading to it’s inevitable end. “The hardest part of turning in my heart” or closing myself off from love, is knowing that there is no looking back. “Turning In” was one of the first songs that producer and bandmate Robbie Grunwald and I started working on, it gave us the creative objective of wanting to keep the EP very minimal and intimate.
2. Low Light
“Low Light” was an exciting song to write and workshop. The soft and sultry tune speaks on longing and sensuality from a female perspective. “Low Light” was also the first song that contained a musical vibe that Robbie and I knew we wanted to nurture, hence why is it the title track on the EP.
3. Everything
The outro lyrics of “Everything” are “I’ll take the load so that you can let go”, and they sum up the mixed feelings of the closing apologies made before the final moments of relationship. “Everything” also features a beautiful string performance and arrangement by Drew Jurecka.
4. Changed
One day you wake up and realize that everything in your relationship has changed, including you. Working through those changes and rediscovering one’s self is the basis of “Changed”. “Changed” also book ends the EP with another intimate song, featuring myself on vocals and uke, Robbie Grunwald on Wurlitzer and Josh Van Tassel on percussion.
Artist Quote
“Lydia writes classic songs that speak directly to everyones personal experiences, and her vocal delivery is stunning. When we set out to make this recording we wanted to highlight these qualities. Most records these days are done on a computer where editing is as much a part of the process as playing and writing the music. To honor the music, we chose to record everything straight to tape with no computer involved. This forced us to sit in the room and play complete takes and the sound brings out the richness and timelessness of Lydia’s incredible voice and songs.” ~ Robbie Grunwald – Producer
