Imagine it’s June and you’ve taken a vacation to Newfoundland and you walk into a pub with fairy lights and wood furnishings. A band is playing and it’s probably going to sound like Slow Leaves. Grant Davidson under the pseudonym Slow Leaves, is a solo artist with a supporting band who plays kind, nostalgic, never too fast paced folk music. The music is also accompanied by strings, slow-paced drums, sometimes electric guitar, and occasionally a back up vocalist. His voice quivers with softness and but emotions are fully brought out in tracks like “Chinatown” where he ponders fondly about his modest life; “cast me in the spotlight/I’m not a leading man […] we never had Paris/more like Chinatown” He also reminisces on a past relationship and all the little details about it. Slow’s lead single off of Enough About Me, “How Do I Say” is a slow-dance-at-a-wedding paced type of song with almost a 50s folk melody. The lyrics are reminiscent of James Blunt’s 2004 hit “You’re Beautiful” about how Slow Leaves sees a beautiful woman in a busy place and let the moment go by as he struggles to find his words.

Overall the album is a pleasant listen and good for any time you’re feeling nostalgic about your own life – or even a time before you.
