SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: FOXTRAX – THE CABIN

FOXTRAX

FOXTRAX
The Cabin
Soul Sounds Records
RATING

Don’t be fooled by the low number of songs; although The Cabin is a smaller album, it’s also sweet and to the point. FOXTRAX really packs a punch in this compact collection of tracks, and leaves listeners wanting more.

Similar to Kings of Leon or Cage the Elephant, FOXTRAX’s songs are a great combination of Alternative and Pop Rock. Their songs are generally upbeat and catchy, making them instant hits – or at least have that hook that gets them stuck in your head all day.

In the amount of time that FOXTRAX has been making music, they’ve already made it to the number one spot on Apple’s radar with “Underwater,” and they’ve caught the attention of Florence + the Machine’s producer, Ben Roulston. Although the band has only officially been around since 2015, FOXTRAX members Ben Schneid, Jared Stenz, and Jon Stenz have known each other since their days in Little League.

The Cabin is suitably named after its conception. In order to avoid distractions, Schneid and the Stenz brothers worked on the album together in a cabin in the woods of North Carolina. Ultimately, this gives the album its organic and fresh sound.

There isn’t a single song that particularly stands out. Instead, they complement each other well. They flow well together and none sound out of place.

The opener “Go It Alone” grabs attention with the head-bobbing, toe-tapping, car-karaoke sound. “Underwater” is cheery and a lot of fun, despite the lyrics being the opposite. “Dark of the Night” is a much-needed somber song to provide a break between the happier-sounding ones. “On the Run” is a more relaxed song, winding the listener down before the emotional “I’ll Be Back for You.” As the final song on the album it’s a great way to wrap up The Cabin, leaving listeners with a nostalgic and longing sound, and ultimately, leaving them wanting more.

Sabrina Biot
Music and writing have always been a big part of Sabrina's life. She would "borrow" her dad's rock and metal CDs from his collection and listen to them while going through the art books. Although she doesn't write angsty poetry anymore, she does have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism which she uses to pursue a creative career path. When she's not writing, Sabrina can be found juggling a coffee cup and DSLR or Instagramming her food.

SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: HALEY BLAIS – WISECRACK

by Ljubinko Zivkovic on September 15, 2023
HALEY BLAIS WISECRACK ARTS & CRAFTS Going for a theme or a concept in your music can be a double-edged sword for many artists, particularly singer-songwriters. Even though it is done in songs (chapters, if you will) the theme has to be [...]
