NORMAL BIAS DROPS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW EBM SINGLE “SOFT POWER”
DKA RECORDS
Synthpop duo Normal Bias have returned with “Soft Power,” a sweltering EBM cut loaded with hard basslines, walls of cutting synths, and sultry Hutchence-meets-Gahan vocals. Accompanied by a surreal music video, “Soft Power” marks the group’s first material since their acclaimed debut Kingdom Come.
The video, directed by Logan Devlin, is a combination of live performance and stop-motion atop 16-bit painterly desert landscapes, lovingly flecked with VHS glitch. Singer Matt Weiner delivers ridiculously cool and restrained vocals while Chris C performs in seeming detachment amidst a mysterious landscape of melting clocks and defaced eyes. Only Normal Bias could evoke both Salvador Dali and Pet Shop Boys in the same video and make it feel as fresh and exciting as anything coming out of the synthpop world.
The duo wryly describe themselves as a “pump and dump scheme, mining the most bloodthirsty pieces of decades of electronic music and stripping it for parts” while calling their sound “equal parts techno synthpop and ruthless venture capital.” Bolstered by their arresting sound and clever image, the band is currently on tour with Spike Hellis, and has performed and collaborated with artists such as Nitzer Ebb, Boy Harsher, Pixel Grip, Buzz Kull, Nuovo Testamento and more.
“‘Soft Power’ confronts the numbing effects of propagandized multimedia addiction that looms over the modern world and enables the worst instincts of our leaders and institutions and leads us further into nowhere and nothing.” – Normal Bias
“Soft Power” is the first single from Normal Bias’ forthcoming LP Ways of Keeping Clean, coming in 2027 via DKA Records. Stream and share the music video now.
