SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: VACATIONS – PURSUIT OF ANYTHING

Vacations

VACATIONS
PURSUIT OF ANYTHING
NETTWERK MUSIC GROUP

What is it with Australians and well too perfectly crafted sophisticated (pop) rock? Is it something in the water, tradition or something else? The number of such bands/artists from Down Under has been steadily growing, and it is enough just to mention The Go-Betweens, Apartments, The Triffids, the list goes on.

One of this century’s additions to that list are Vacations, who have just come up with Pursuit of Anything, their latest album.

As with their previous releases, lead songwriter and vocalist Campbell Burns and his crew have come up with another set of almost perfectly crafted sophisticated pop/rock tunes that rely on intricate songwriting, instrumentation and vocals (with detailed harmonies at every corner) with Burns’ lyrics never lagging behind at any point.

It seems that the prevailing theme of growing up (or getting older, if you will), has struck a certain note with Buns and other members of the band, as this turns out to be the Vacations’ most accomplished album so far.
