The House Flies are a four-piece dark alternative/post-punk band from Moline, Illinois. “Derelict Crawl” is the first single from their second full-length album, Lions and Ore, arriving November 6. The song comes from the band’s post-punk and goth foundation while leaning into repetition, heavier guitar movement, and the contrast between dense sections and quieter space. It is one of the more direct songs on an album that also stretches into slower, longer, and more atmospheric territory. Lions and Ore is the first House Flies full-length to feature the current four-piece lineup of Alex Riggen on vocals/guitars, Burnie Eckhardt on guitar, Ozzie Woods on bass, and Nick Pompou on drums.
“Derelict Crawl” will be released everywhere on September 4.

“The lyrics to ‘Derelict Crawl’ work more through images and repetition than a clear narrative, and we like leaving room for people to decide what it means to them. The repeated ‘We don’t belong’ probably gives you as much of a center to the song as we want to give away. Musically, it keeps circling back on itself while the guitars and dynamics gradually give it more weight.”
