British indie soul collective Jungle have been on a generational run, record after record, creating soul-jazz fusion, atmospheric vibes, and creative music videos with meticulous choreography. Most recently, they went viral with their hit song “Back on 74” on their 2023 record Volcano. They are back with a new record, Sunshine, which continues to shine with no skips.

“Come Back To Me” grooves its way into the record, opening with a percussive Latin and Afrobeat fusion that’s a vibe as it unravels into infatuation love with a crush. The titular track “Sunshine” has an electric opening of soul and disco production backed by Lydia Kitto’s vocals, bringing positive vibes to the function and screaming ‘random musical song’ for whatever the mood may be.

“Move Like You Do” stands out on the record as a short sample of an exercise tape which shifts gears into a full-on disco. Kitto’s layered vocals go in perfect harmony with the disco production, making it the perfect song for a date night at a roller rink.

Going from disco to hip-hop in “Romeo II” featuring rapper Bas. The easy-grooving track exudes swag and main character energy about missed connections and finding the one. Maintaining the main character energy is “The Wave.” An energetic soul-driven track with motivational undertones backed by Kitto’s vocals and a groovy soul-jazz production.

Ending the record is “Heavy On My Soul.” The three-min acoustic-driven track takes a tonal shift from the band’s usual groove to a grounded song about carrying the weight around oneself and turning it into an uplifting one.

Jungle’s Sunshine continues to amalgamate genres into a cacophony of vibes, artist creativity and collaboration, and tracks made for the dance floor. It’s one of the best records to come out of this year, and it is highly recommended.
