Litvar’s frontman Rex Thurstan describes the band’s new offering, Being Here, as “a bare, stripped-back folk record.” Yet, that might be stretching it a bit.

Of course, Thurstan might have in mind what counts as folk in these modern times, or he might have a broader meaning of the term bare, as most of the album is inspired by the loss of his father.

What he also might have in mind is a prevailing languid tone of the songs here and sparse, or better said, sustained, but quite effective arrangements that envelop storytelling lyrics.

And sure, you can give it any description you want; some would even be reminded of the halcyon days of what was once called college radio rock, but the songs here work in any way you want to call them, even folk rock, as Thurstan wants.
