With an abundance of singles to her name, Kit Major has returned with her third EP, Miss Ego. Led by singles “Not As Witty As I Used To Be” and “Punk Rock Boyfriend,” the latter of which features some exceptional artwork, Major establishes herself with a classic punk sound that is not afraid to stand out on her latest outing.

Miss Ego opens with the crunching, rhythmic power chords of the lead single, “Not As Witty As I Used To Be.” Major immediately establishes herself with a sound reminiscent of ‘70s punk, a song that can stand beside the classic bops of the Ramones and Blondie. The high-energy track sets the tone and should leave listeners eager to hear the song live in a dingy club, with everyone on and offstage bouncing off the walls. The following track, “Messin’ With Me,” continues to build upon this idea as Major leads her band through a building arrangement with an effortless sense of cool.

As the EP continues, Major and her band head into the title track, “Miss Ego Pt. 1” offering a slightly different take on Major’s brand of punk. What first felt clean, almost polished, is replaced with wailing guitars and sultry, effected vocals. There is a griminess to “Miss Ego Pt. 1” that feels more connected to The Stooges, introducing a recklessness further evident on the blistering “Punk Rock Boyfriend.” Between this and the glossiness of the opening songs and “Invalidate Me,” Major demonstrates a songwriting voice that feels fresh in modern punk.

Across six songs, Major shines on her third EP as a constantly evolving force within punk rock. Miss Ego teeters on the fine line between pop punk and hardcore, with a distinctly vintage, nostalgic sound that harkens back to the golden age of punk rock. By avoiding being especially poppy and heavy, Major has carved out her own niche, making Miss Ego an exciting gem.
