SOFIE ROYER – “COWBOY MOUTH” OUT NOW VIA STONES THROW RECORDS
STONES THROW RECORDS
Sofie Royer’s “Cowboy Mouth” was inspired by punk and films like Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars and Lynch’s Lost Highway. She wrote the song with longtime friends and collaborators Rebounder during some downtime between tour dates in the US. Watch Sofie’s self-directed music video here and stay tuned for more new music soon.
Sofie Royer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Vienna who translates her interest in classical tradition into shimmering electro-pop songs. She channelled her love for French chanson into her 2020 debut, Cult Survivor, and looked to Viennese opera and ballet for 2022’s Harlequin. She guested on Lewis OfMan’s latest record, Cristal Medium Blue, and on Toro Y Moi’s MAHAL in 2022, and has recently opened for Lana Del Rey, Air, and LCD Soundsystem. For Sofie’s new album Young-Girl Forever, she borrows the term “Young-Girl” from the book Preliminary Materials for the Theory of a Young-Girl, originally published in French anarchist journal Tiqqun, and republished in English via Semiotext(e). She expresses a desire for true liberation while oscillating between optimism and doom, and celebrating the figure of the “Young-Girl” while critiquing the culture that created her.
