RIKAS RELEASE NEW EP BEDROOM TAPES + SHARE “MEXICO CITY”
NETTWERK
Rikas release their new EP Bedroom Tapes, out now via Nettwerk. The record is a nostalgic collection of songs that revisits some of the earliest recordings from their beginnings as a band. Formed in 2016 as childhood friends, the project captures a return to where it all started. Rikas is bassist Sam Luca Baisch, guitarist and keyboardist Sascha Scherer, drummer Ferdinand Hübner, and guitarist Chris Ronge.
On the focus track, “Mexico City,” Rikas shares, “this song is a longing for someone you share a romantic long-distance relationship with. You might be far away, but in your mind, you want to spend your time in Mexico City together. And ever since we started this band, we have had a dream of playing in Mexico City. It has such a history of great indie music and seems to be the place to be when it comes to performing.
“Sam had the pleasure of spending some time in CDMX last year, and hopefully, our dream will come true soon, and we can play in Mexico. For us, the song has something colorful. It’s easygoing, chaotic, and sunny. And that is also how the city makes us feel,” the band adds.
The band’s trip down memory lane comes on the heels of another celebration of rock nostalgia. In summer 2025, after the release of their riveting sophomore album, Soundtrack For A Movie That Has Not Been Written Yet, Rikas reconvened in their hometown of Stuttgart for rehearsals. Amid recording new material, Rikas began filming themselves playing a series of vintage rock covers, including ELO’s “Last Train To London” and Wings’ 1980 classic “Goodnight Tonight.” The latter quickly went viral after Florence Pugh shared it on her Instagram story, and soon it earned praise from Sir Paul McCartney himself. Soon, the band was invited by McCartney to record a full cover of “Goodnight Tonight.” For Rikas, the invitation was a meaningful nod to the influences that continue to inform their sound.
With Bedroom Tapes, the band turns that sense of reflection inward, revisiting the songs that first set their journey in motion.
