Some readers might get the impression that Abigail Lapell is kind of a Spill Magazine favorite. Ok, so they might be right, but the reasons for that do not lie solely with the fact that she’s from Toronto. No favoritism there, because it is her constantly developing songwriting and excellent vocal capabilities that grab attention from every new album she comes up with.

And Shadow Child is Lapell’s new offering that confirms that her songwriting is a few notches higher in quality and that her vocal abilities are not wavering a bit. It could all lie in the fact that she became a mother, and that it was quite a rocky road for her, but whatever it is, this album shows that Abigail Lapell deserves more credit and a larger audience at that.
