JAYDEN RAINNIE – “NOTHING/NOWHERE”
INDEPENDENT
Jayden Rainnie is nothing if not a storyteller first. Nothing/Nowhere is the Canadian singer songwriter’s debut single. It follows the story of Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar, characters of the 2005 cult classic film Brokeback Mountain. She wrote the song in her childhood bedroom immediately after watching the film for the first time. “I don’t remember writing it.” quotes the singer, “it just flew out of me”. Although she could not take credit for coming up with the story herself, at the time of writing she had been grieving certain people and places just as the characters were in the film. In the summer of 2024, Rainnie had just graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy, an arts boarding school hidden in the mountains of Southern California. While recording and releasing the song over a year later the artist began to realize how universal the concept of the song was. How we’ve all been stuck with someone somewhere for a period of time, and what that experience does to us can be both magnifying and earth shaking.
