SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: AFTERNOON BIKE RIDE – RUNNING WITH SCISSORS

Afternoon Bike Ride

AFTERNOON BIKE RIDE
RUNNING WITH SCISSORS
FRIENDS OF FRIENDS MUSIC

Another not so easy to define Montreal band, this time a trio that goes by the name of Afternoon Bike Ride. Their third full-length album, Running With Scissors, is more proof that the trio of Lia Kurihara, Éloi Le Blanc-Ringuette and David Tanton has some excellent music to give us.

While their previous projects went in quite a few directions, blending ambient, folk, and pop with these musical elements having distinctive appearances throughout. With their third album, the trio seems to have decided to make a more interviewed combination of the elements they previously exhibited into quite a consistent whole, with quite some delightful results. That whole now sounds stylistically fully integrated with Afternoon Bike Ride creating quite a unique sound that is both delicate and complex without complicating things at any point. Where they will go from here is anybody’s guess, but for now, this is an excellent effort throughout.
