9-VOLT VELVET – “HURRICANE BRAIN”

Today we have the pleasure of introducing “Hurricane Brain”, the new single from Dallas-based indie nugaze outfit 9-Volt Velvet. Based out of Dallas, Texas, this trio recently released their 13-track debut album Nude Beaches on CD via Brighton, UK labelΒ Shore Dive Records.
This is an impressive and invigorating song from a relative newcomer band, who create a sound that involves a blend of multiple influences and seemingly loads of gear. “Weaving influences and wielding layers of guitar, this is sonic temptation and a wall of soundΒ in an alluring envelope. With a sonic tapestry of post-punk urgency, shoegaze dreamscapes and subtly haunting vocals, this is a song that demands your attention”.
9-Volt Velvet is a trio of three guys β they are Mark CrossΒ (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion),Β Donnie RobertsonΒ (drums, percussion, keyboards) andΒ Kevin RobinsonΒ (guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals). Hailing fromΒ Muscle Shoals, AL and Dallas respectively, Mark and Donnie met through an ad in a local newspaper, hit it off instantly and formed a band, eventually being joined by Kevin soon after they began performing.
Involving past members of ofΒ Viva VoceΒ andΒ The Northern Lights, they bring together several decades of experience playing shows with the likes ofΒ Starflyer 59, Spoon, The Dandy Warhols, Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, Kill Hannah, Luxury, Lugsole, The Features, Bleach, Β Fold Zandura, 764-HEROΒ andΒ Morellaβs Forest.
‘Nude Beaches’ is the culmination of 9-Volt Velvet’s musical journey, showcasing their evolution as artists and the unique sounds they have curated together. Inspired by their natural chemistry and a like-minded approach to music-making, in June 2023, they embarked on an intense 3-week studio session in Dallas, crafting an album that explores the themes of freedom and self-expression.
The band has also released a limited edition of twentyΒ 7″ lathe-cut vinyl, which featuresΒ “Riptide”Β as the A-side andΒ “Hey Candy” on the B-side.
Influenced by such artists as The Cure, Sonic Youth, Swervedriver, The Jesus & Mary Chain, DIIV and The Velvet Underground, 9-Volt Velvet emerged as a recording artist in January 22 with their debutΒ Cathedrals EP, followed by theΒ Mirrors EPΒ in July of that year.
The ‘Nude Beaches’ album is out everywhere digitally and also on CD viaΒ Shore Dive Records. The “Riptide / Hey, Candy” 7″ vinyl edition is also now available directly on 9-Volt Velvetβs Bandcamp.
