BLUE RODEO: LOST TOGETHER DOCUMENTARY CHRONICLES THE 40-YEAR JOURNEY OF CANADIAN MUSIC LEGENDS
PRESENTED BY BLUE ICE DOCS
Blue Ice Docs is thrilled to announce the theatrical release of the highly anticipated feature documentary, Blue Rodeo: Lost Together, directed by Dale Heslip. The film offers an intimate and revealing look at the enduring career of Blue Rodeo, one of Canada’s most beloved and longest-running bands.
Blue Rodeo: Lost Together will begin its theatrical run across Canada on February 1, opening in Toronto at Hot Docs Cinema, with a wider rollout in Cineplex Cinemas February 2 and 3 across the country.
Guided by the distinctive voices of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, Blue Rodeo: Lost Together dives deep into the band’s remarkable four-decade journey, providing an unfiltered, humorous, and deeply moving account of their unlikely rise to stardom. The documentary goes beyond the music, exploring the dynamic relationship between Cuddy, the pragmatic charmer, and Keelor, the intense and rebellious artist, whose contrasting personalities ignited a powerful creative force.
The film takes audiences back to the band’s humble beginnings at North Toronto Collegiate, where an improbable friendship blossomed into a lifelong creative partnership. It chronicles their early struggles in the gritty Queen Street West scene of the mid-1980s, their meteoric rise with the breakout hit “Try,” and the explosion of Canadian roots music that they helped to pioneer.
Blue Rodeo: Lost Together doesn’t shy away from the challenges. It candidly portrays their attempt to conquer the American market, including a high-profile appearance on The Tonight Show, revealing the complex realities of the music industry. But ultimately, it’s the unwavering resilience, friendship, and deep commitment to their craft that define the band’s true essence, which shines through in the documentary.
“Blue Rodeo: Lost Together is more than just a band documentary; it’s a celebration of friendship, family, and the transformative power of music,” says director Dale Heslip. “It’s a testament to the enduring bond between Jim and Greg, two high school buddies who made a pact 40 years ago and have never let go. We hope this film resonates with fans old and new.”
