BRISTOL ALT-INDIE FOUR-PIECE ADULT LEISURE CAST LIGHT ON AUSTERITY IN ANGRY NEW SINGLE “KISS ME LIKE YOU MISS HER”
INDEPENDENT
A music video for Adult Leisure’s recent single “Kiss Me Like You Miss Her” is out now!
The music video was filmed by the band themselves, on their phones, in its entirety, keeping true to the track’s subject matter, highlighting the everyday realities for someone living on the breadline.
Discussing what they hoped to achieve with the music video, drummer Nathan Searle says: “To reflect the harsh reality of the cost of the living crisis in the UK, we wanted this video to feel simple and genuine. A polished production wouldn’t have felt appropriate for the story we wanted to tell. Instead, we filmed the entire video ourselves, working with what we had and keeping things as straightforward as possible. This approach highlights how creativity and resourcefulness often emerge from limitation. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t need to be extravagant to be powerful, it just needs to be honest.”
The track, recorded and mixed with long-time producer Ollie Searle at Bristol’s Humm Studios and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran, Coach Party), holds a lens firmly on the state of Britain, pre-election 2024, and shines a light on their combined lived and witnessed experiences of austerity.
Discussing the lyrical subject matter, the band comments:Β “It’s easy to get blindsided and almost complacent with music that tackles social commentary. However, we’ve all had, or still have, ongoing experiences of the damage austerity has caused. We wanted our chance to express that anger. We saw a way to create a story drawn from personal and everyday experiences. Life still isn’t good, and our way of dealing with it is through music – this is our petulance and frustration in a song.
“Having to choose between eating a hot meal or putting Β£10 on the gas meter takes its toll. We’ve seen it up close in recent memory. It’s so important for these subjects to remain in conversation.”
Adult Leisure’s previous single “Borderline” opened up November 11th’s Made In Chelsea episode, their first mainstream TV sync, and an incredibly exciting time within the band.
