The Berlin-based French Caribbean multidisciplinary artist, musician, and performer, is proud to present her new song “Peel The Skin.”
First performed live at HAU1 (Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin) in March 2023, this delicate/ track now makes its long-awaited debut to audiences worldwide.
“Peel The Skin” draws listeners into a dark, seductive soundscape where minimalistic instrumentation and Renay’s hypnotic vocals float like a mist over the Berlin skyline at dusk. Her voice whispers secrets that linger long after the music fades, each word resonating with raw emotion and poetic intensity. As the song’s message unfolds, we feel the full impact: “Revolution is starting…”
The second half of the track offers a subtle shift, wrapping listeners into a soft, uplifting breeze that carries a glimmer of hope. As layers of sound are peeled away, Renay’s vulnerable and impassioned performance mirrors the stark beauty of the cover art, creating an intimate sonic landscape that pulses with desire. “Peel The Skin” marks Valerie Renay’s first collaboration with producer Aka-E, who co-wrote the track, along with additional production from Sebastian Lee Philipp of Die Wilde Jagd and former music partner in Noblesse Oblige. The result is a cinematic and visceral experience, showcasing Renay’s unique ability to blend art pop with electronic atmospherics. Renay’s work is known for its exploration of sensuality, identity, and emotional depth, and her live performances often push creative boundaries with striking visuals and an intense theatricality.
