A CONVERSATION WITH MAC SABBATH

Within the wide, major umbrella of metal music, there are tons of niche subgenres that may pique the interest of many. Black Sabbath’s doom metal sound eventually birthed the band Mac Sabbath, the Godfathers of “drive-thru” metal. When asked about how the band feels about the evolution of the subgenre, they had some serious thoughts.

“Like Pioneer Chicken? Well, Ronald [Osbourne] is very “paranoid” about the other bands in the genre they created taking the food out of their mouths. He is constantly complaining about Cinnabon Jovi, Chic-fil AC/DC, and Burger King Diamond. So, I don’t know how much hope there is for some kind of “CLAWS FEST” I mean is Lobster even a drive-thru food? I must say it is good to see him making nice with Iron Maidennies though! I think they are even doing a salute to them on this tour!”

Mac Sabbath is composed of Ronald Osbourne, Slayer MacCheeze, Grimalice and the Catburglar. The band is about to be embarking on a tour throughout the fall season. They all expressed excitement about the upcoming shows!

“The band is dripping with excitement not to mention ketchup and mustard. Two amazing festivals, Muddy Roots in Tennessee, with Circle Jerks and main stage going on right before Monolord! Louder Than life in Kentucky with Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Anthrax, to name a few! Some headlining shows with Clownvis, Descartes a Kant and Alison Anomaly. Then, a 7-week tour with GWAR and Midnight all over the U.S. and Canada. This is undoubtedly the most intense year for the Monsanto mutants ever. It just keeps getting weirder and bigger. They are bouncing burgers off the walls!”

According to the band, the preparation process of playing these shows is a bit of a secret, but it does require some type of prep time. Since their shows are a lot more theatrical, it requires more than just basic rehearsals. “Well, it’s not a regular band so there is an enormous amount of prep to keep a consumable elaborate stage show going for months at a time. The secret sauce is all locked up so I can’t tell you how the sausage is made but I can tell you, it’s not easy!”

Avid fans of Mac Sabbath can look forward to some performances of their favourite songs soon, from “Sweet Beef” to “More Ribs.” Ronald Osbourne especially looks forward to performing one song in particular. “My personal favorite is ‘Organic Funeral,’ a song about the death of real food.” So many people don’t understand the conspiracy behind American food and how the lengths that the government corporate collusion has gone to poison us and sell us medical treatment. As lighthearted, fun and entertaining as this band can be, if you really dig in and analyze the lyrics in a song like this where some really grizzly realities are explored, you will find one line is one word. Azodicarbonamide [ADA] is yoga mat foam in your hamburger buns approved by the FDA, but not in other countries. That’s just the beginning.”

After this tour, Mac Sabbath looks forward to sharing the stage with other themed acts, since their shows are often very showy and elaborate. “Don’t even know where to start on this. I mean, it’s pretty obvious this GWARbies thing makes a lot of sense. Other theatrical stage show bands could be a hoot! Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Rammstein? That would make sense show wise. Doom bands like Sleep, The Sword and Black Mountain. Butthole Surfers and Primus make a lot of sense in my head. But also, would be great to play with bands that have a message that matches up. Cattle Decapitation, MDC and Morrissey? Um, wait, NO, not Morrissey. Scratch that last one!”

For those that haven’t heard of Mac Sabbath, worry not! Their style might be familiar to metalheads and alternative music lovers all across the globe. “Mac is very focused on bringing you metal in its most organic format therefore most of the messages are hand delivered to you wrapped in Black Sabbath songs with lyrics about the evils or drive thru metal lifestyle. Ronald and the gang’s methods are not typical, but they are as hard hitting as the front row getting it straight to the face sprayed out of ketchup and mustard bottles!”

As Mac Sabbath is setting up to take the stage within the next few weeks, Ronald sends his regards to Mac Sabbath fans around the globe, with love and with warnings. “Food was meant to be medicine, not poison. Specifically, if you live in the U.S. you need to do a lot of research on what you are putting in your mouth (and ears). Don’t let these monsters push you around and control your mind, body and soul. Even a con-sitter growing your own food. I know it sounds ridiculous, but you need to be prepared. The robots are coming.”
