Wowing audiences across 300 stages around the globe, Toronto’s dynamite rockers Goodnight Sunrise are here to bring the experience of a soul-gripping arena rock show straight to your stereo. Founded in 2011 by Vanessa Vakharia (keytar, vocals) and David Kochberg (guitar, vocals), the band formed via their shared love of the raw power of classic rock. Β For fans of The Glorious Sons, Royal Blood and Metric, the band is returning to the spotlight with a new, mature soundscape. Relentless in their pursuit of honesty and exploration, they are big believers in human connection. “The world is full of light and darkness, and as we try to find balance in our own lives through music, we hope that it brings comfort to others on similar paths,” says Vakharia.
Synonymous with badassery and high-energy live performances, Goodnight Sunrise is gearing up to release their 3rd full-length album, Against All Odds, later this year. It is their biggest, boldest, and most commanding record yet, building on everything they’ve learned about production, arrangement, and songwriting since starting the band 10 years ago. Produced and mixed by Brian Moncarz (Our Lady Peace, The Trews, Circa Survive, Moneen), mastered by Grammy-winner Brian Lucey (Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, Elvis Costello, Ghost), and featuring bassist Duncan Coutts and drummer Jason Pierce of Our Lady Peace, the album achieves one of the band’s most longstanding goals: to capture on record the feeling of being at one of their live shows. Against All Odds is defined by hooky choruses, arena-sized drums, heavy guitars, ripping solos, soaring harmonies and gang vocals. Inspired sonically by Foo Fighters, The Pretty Reckless and Jimmy Eat World, Kochberg describes the album as “a salute to the rock music that inspired us, both musically and also as a voice for the misfits of the world that push back against the status quo”.
Since forming a decade ago, the band has recorded two previous full-length albums, Falling Awake (2016) and Create/Destroy/Create (2013) along with a slew of infectious singles. These past releases have garnered over 500K streams worldwide. The rockers have also made a name for themselves by wowing live audiences around the globe. Their explosive live performances have hit stages in Canada, the US and Europe. After submitting a song to Toronto’s Q107 in 2019, the group scored an opening slot for Bon Jovi at Scotiabank Arena. They’ve also opened for the likes of Big Wreck and The Sheepdogs along the way.
