SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: X AMBASSADORS – VHS(X)

X Ambassadors

X AMBASSADORS
VHS(X)
VIRGIN MUSIC GROUP

X Ambassadors have always had a gift for creating music that’s both anthemic and deeply personal, and their latest release celebrating 10 years together is a shining reminder of that talent. Instead of a standard greatest hits package, the band chose to reimagine some of their most iconic songs, breathing new life into the tracks that first won over fans a decade ago. The result is an album that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

What makes this collection so powerful is the raw emotion at its core. Stripped back in places and reworked with inventive arrangements, the songs feel more intimate, allowing listeners to hear the heart and soul behind the lyrics in ways that may have been overshadowed by their radio-ready production the first time around. Sam Harris’s vocals especially shine, pulling every ounce of emotion from the words and proving once again why X Ambassadors have held such staying power in the alternative scene. For longtime fans, this album is a true gift. An opportunity to experience familiar songs from a new perspective while celebrating the journey the band has taken. For newer listeners, it’s an entry point into the band’s catalogue that highlights their artistry at its most vulnerable and authentic. Ten years in, X Ambassadors aren’t just reflecting on their past, they’re showing us how much they’ve grown. This reimagined collection isn’t just a look back; it’s a statement of where the band is headed next. A real treat from start to finish.

About the Author
Mercedes Chircop
Mercedes is a Toronto native with a huge passion for photography and creative writing. Her love of being behind the lens has given her the opportunity to capture captivating images for national campaigns and earned her publications in renowned international magazines. Beyond her photographic pursuits, Mercedes is an avid attendee of concerts, immersing herself in the live music experience and documenting it from the photo pit. While her musical tastes lean towards rock alternative, she also embarks on an indie rock journey, and on a day to day, she also indulges in coffee to an extent that rivals the Gilmore Girls, while her Italian heritage instilled a lifelong love for pasta, meatballs, and pizza (as long as it’s gluten-free and vegan).
