TIMOTHY LAROQUE
THE FLORIDA EFFECT
DEF CAT RECORDS

These days it is nothing unusual if a singer-songwriter hails from Hollywood, California. Yet, what about the case when that singer-songwriter comes from Hollywood, but the one located in Florida?
Well, things shouldn’t change much, if there is quality to be found in their music, as is the case with Timothy LaRoque and his solo album The Florida Effect.
LaRoque, who is also involved in two other musical projects/bands, The Summit and The Def Cats, cites an excellent source of musical inspiration, Bob Lind, another Floridian, and one of the key inspirations of the 60s folk rock movement. And LaRoque puts that inspiration to excellent use without actually trying to copy Lind in any manner. He is firmly rooted in the modern singer-songwriter concept here, without fixating himself on any strict genre moving into rock and soul realms when his songwriting sees it fit. With some excellent musicianship behind him, he makes all the songs subtly shine throughout this album.
