SUZANNE JARVIE
MOTHER’S DAY
WOLFE ISLAND RECORDS

Is Toronto currently becoming one of the hotbeds of emerging singer-songwriters? Quite possibly, as that artistic field seems to be repeating the growth it had in the early to mid-70s.
Still, it might be hard to say what we can consider as emerging singer-songwriters. For example, Toronto’s Suzanne Jarvie released her debut album Spiral Road back in 2014, which was nominated for Best Concept Album at the Independent Music Awards that year. It took her some five years to release In The Clear (2019), and now another seven for her latest, mother’s day.
In her case, that emerging tag might lie in the fact that she is taking her time between releases, and it is obvious that one of the reasons is that she is taking her time to craft her music and lyrics, which just might be the right thing to do, as her latest album is brimming with carefully crafted songs, carried by her clear vocals and well thought out lyrics, something that has always been essential for singer-songwriters. Detailed and uncluttered arrangements also work in Jarvie’s favour here, making her another singer-songwriter to watch out for, no matter how much it takes her to craft her albums.
